Being A Participant

Being A Participant

What is asking for your participation?

I’m John Constantino II. Being A Participant is how I practice being fully alive: on the ground, at work, in my body, and in what I’m creating.

These four portals are where I practice in the open. Your participation can take its own form. If you’d like company, step through any of them.

Four portals

Each portal shows where it actually stands today. Nothing here is presented as more finished than it is.

The ripple doesn’t need to introduce itself.

A couple of days before leaving this neighborhood, I saw a man walking through it with a grabber and a bucket.

My immediate reaction was to approach him.

I wanted to acknowledge what he was doing, appreciate him, encourage him, say hello, and tell him that I do the same thing. There was something in me that wanted him to know he was not alone in caring for this place.

    Then another thought appeared.

I do not actually know what inspired him.

Maybe he has never seen me.

    Maybe he has.

Maybe he has been doing this much longer than I have.

Maybe, from his perspective, he thinks his example influenced me.

There was no way to know, and suddenly I realized that knowing was not necessary.

The important thing was already happening.

Someone was caring for the place.

That realization felt especially meaningful because I was about to leave the neighborhood.

Earth Stewardship has taught me to participate where I am. While this was the place I was living, this was one of the ways I chose to care for it. I did not own the neighborhood, and I was never responsible for saving it. I was simply participating in the kind of place I wanted to live in while I was here.

Seeing another person with a grabber and a bucket just before leaving gave me something I did not know I needed.

The care was continuing without me.

For a moment, I noticed how easy it would have been to insert myself into his participation.

    “I do this too.”

    “You are not alone.”

    “Maybe you saw my videos.”

    “Maybe my example inspired you.”

Even appreciation can quietly become a way of locating ourselves inside someone else’s story.

There would have been nothing wrong with saying hello. The impulse came from a genuine place.

But I realized that connection did not require introduction.

I could simply witness his participation and allow it to mean something to me.

That brought me back to the beginning of my own Earth Stewardship practice.

Years ago, I saw a neighbor picking up litter.

    They did not approach me.

They did not explain what they were doing.

    They did not recruit me.

They did not know that their example stayed with me.

    Their participation was enough.

Eventually, seeing what they were doing helped me recognize something that was already available in myself.

Now I found myself standing on the other side of that experience.

I saw someone else participating, and for once I did not need to know where the ripple began or where it was going.

I only needed to recognize that it was there.

Maybe the ripple does not need to introduce itself.

Maybe we do not always need to know who inspired whom.

Maybe participation can move through people and places without ownership, recognition, or attribution.

I participated here while I was here.

    Someone else is participating now.

The care does not belong to either of us.

And as I leave this neighborhood, that feels like enough.

  2. LOG 283Oct 10, 2026

    A much-needed rest day.

Today was a much-needed rest day after Friday night's Naked Yoga and a long work week getting the new RLL website up and active and working on what the Being A Participant website will be. I am grateful for being in this creative space and making progress on revealing and participating in the Life of my Dreams. I walked and practiced my Wuji Stance, and I fed my body delicious, nutritious foods. Today was a great day!

The posture

Listen.Choose.Participate.Respond.

Different parts of life. The same practice. Leadership is not Qigong, and a walk with a litter bag is not a business problem. What carries across is the quality of participation.

Remain connected to yourself. Enter what matters. Let experience affect what you know. Respond to what becomes true.

About

The founder participates too.

I am John Constantino II. I am in love with living this life to the fullest, and I try to let that love move outward.

Being A Participant is the container I built for that. It is not a finished theory or a promise of transformation. It is a practice I keep entering: leading teams, walking with a litter bag, sitting in a room with people choosing their next step, standing in Wuji at nine in the morning.

Each portal grew out of something I was already doing. Experience earns the right to inquiry, not automatic authority, so each one says honestly how far along it is.

Over 24 years with the Giorgio Armani Corporation's A|X Armani Exchange division, I rose from Associate Manager to Director of Retail, leading up to 24 stores at once (12 retail, 12 outlet), $95M in annual revenue and more than 800 employees.
